-SCIENCE/SOCIAL STUDIES

Many of the concepts are taught through our language arts series and supplemented through our curriculum on Firefly. We also read our Let’s Find Out magazines. Here is a list of concepts we teach.

  • Science- Scientific Method, 5 senses, plants, animals, stages of matter, weather, seasons, types of earth material, water cycle, life cycles, recycling/pollution, agricultural tools/farming.
  • Social Studies- Laws/rules, important historical figures, goods/services, Community helpers, land/water forms, maps, national holidays, and the constitution.

  • On Firefly you will find learning maps and/or KUD’s (what the students should know, understand, and be able to do) for Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies. You will find that the learning maps and KUD’s are linked directly to a State Standard and/or the Common Core Standard, and important vocabulary words that your child will be exposed to are listed as well. This is part of the Learning Focus Schools initiative for the district.
